Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 26, 2026

Newburgh Votes is a program of Every Ballot, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit registered in New York State (EIN 41-5150723). This page explains what information we collect on newburghvotes.org, how we use it, and what we don't do with it.

The short version

  • We collect email addresses when you sign up for our election reminders newsletter. That's it, unless you donate or contact us directly.
  • We use first-party, privacy-respecting analytics for basic site stats. No Google Analytics, no Facebook pixels, no third-party trackers.
  • We never sell, rent, or share your information with any political party, campaign, or candidate. We're a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) and that's a hard line.
  • If you donate, Stripe processes the transaction — we never see your card details.
  • Voter registration and polling place lookups happen on official NY state websites that we link to. We don't see what you submit there.
  • You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email or by emailing [email protected].

What we collect

Newsletter signups. When you subscribe to our election reminders, we collect your email address and the date you subscribed. Stored on the Newburgh Votes platform so we can send you what you signed up for.

Donations. When you donate, you do so through Stripe (donate.stripe.com). Stripe collects your payment information directly and we never see your card number, CVV, or banking details. Stripe shares your name, email, and donation amount with Every Ballot, Inc. so we can send a tax receipt and keep nonprofit accounting records.

Polling place lookups. Our polling place finder lets you enter an address to see where you vote. The address is sent to our elections API and to Mapbox (for the map display), both of which return results back to your browser. We don't store the address you submit.

Server logs and analytics. Like most websites, our hosting infrastructure records standard request information — IP address, the page visited, browser/device type, and a timestamp — used for site operation, security, and basic anonymized analytics. Our analytics are first-party: we use the Kwill platform's Ahoy-based analytics, which respect Do Not Track signals and do not share data with any third party.

Cookies. Newburgh Votes uses minimal, functional cookies — for things like remembering your language preference. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or behavioral retargeting cookies.

What we do with it

  • Email — to send the newsletter you subscribed to and remind you of election deadlines. We will not use your email for anything else.
  • Donation info — to issue tax receipts, maintain accounting records as required of a 501(c)(3), and respond if you contact us about your donation.
  • Server logs and analytics — to keep the site working, prevent abuse, and understand which pages voters find useful.
  • Polling place address — only to look up your assigned polling place and return the result to your browser. Not stored.

What we don't do

  • We never share your data with political parties, campaigns, or candidates. This is the core promise of a nonpartisan voter-info nonprofit, and we won't compromise it.
  • We never sell your data. Not to data brokers, not to advertisers, not to anyone.
  • We don't track you across the web. No third-party advertising cookies, no Facebook or Google pixels, no behavioral retargeting.
  • We don't store payment information. Stripe handles all that.

Third-party services we use

  • Stripe — donation processing. See Stripe's privacy policy.
  • Mapbox — polling place and early voting maps. See Mapbox's privacy policy.
  • Google Fonts — we load fonts from fonts.googleapis.com. Google may receive your IP address as part of that font request. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Hosting infrastructure — Newburgh Votes is built on the Kwill.io platform, which runs on standard cloud infrastructure (DigitalOcean). Their privacy practices are governed by their respective policies.

External voter-resource links

Our site links to official New York State and Orange County voter resources — the NY voter lookup, MyDMV registration portal, and the Board of Elections sites. Once you click through to those sites, their privacy policies apply, not ours. We don't see or receive anything you submit on those external sites.

Your rights

  • Unsubscribe from email at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link in any newsletter, or by emailing [email protected].
  • Request deletion of your data by emailing [email protected] with the subject "data deletion." We'll remove your email from the newsletter list and any direct contact records within 30 days.
  • Ask what we have about you — same email address, subject "data request."

If you live in a state with formal data-protection rights (California's CCPA, Colorado's CPA, Virginia's CDPA, and similar), those rights apply and we'll honor them. New York's SHIELD Act applies to any New York resident.

Children

Newburgh Votes is intended for adults eligible to vote in New York (18+). We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please email [email protected] and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices change or when the law requires it. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top, and material changes will be announced in our newsletter (if you're subscribed) and noted on the site.
